I know it's been discussed before, but I'd like to hear current opinions on whether its better to leave a Mac on permanently or turn it off every day and on again the next day. David Rudolph rudolph@m.cs.uiuc.edu University of Illinois

I turn mine off (even though I have an expensive surge protector) because my neighborhood has a lot of brownouts & power glitches. -Ted

Maybe it depends on which Mac you have (an older one where the power
supply might go out) and where you live (earthquake prone areas).
I shut off the Mac II at work so my hard disk is not positioned inappro-
priately in case of an earthquake.
Recently, when the power supply went on the 512+ at home, I suspect that
my not catching it in time contributed to the additional damage suffered
by the Monster Mac memory upgrade.
But I'd like to hear what others think also.
