[comp.sys.mac] Hypercard access to external applications?

    I just recently began learning about HyperCard, and I am reading
    Goodman's book (2nd edition) about it.  I quote the following from
    page 42:

	"... HyperCard has a feature that lets you open external programs
	and document.  In essence, you will have access to any application
	program and any document created by your applications directly from
	HyperCard."

    The trouble is, so far as I can tell, that is the first and last time
    that "feature" is mentioned in the book.  Whatever that feature is,
    it is non-obvious to me.  Can anyone tell me what he is referring to?
