[comp.sys.mac] Connecting Canon Scanner to Mac II

(Posted for a friend)

My company recently leased a Mac II (4 meg/40HD) for desktop
publishing evaluation. We have a Canon IX-12 scanner for a PC
(parallel port connection) that we wish to try on the Mac II.

Does anyone know how to go about connecting the two? Where would I
acquire the proper driver/resource? What about hardware connection
considerations?

Thanks in advance...

Looks like you're in (ahm, your friend, ofcourse) for a lot of trouble,
As you may or may not know, the Mac has no parallel (centronics) interface
like that Canon uses. You can try figuring out how you can convert the parallel
signals to serial lines, but that means that you're gonna have to write
the drivers yourself. Do you have a couple of months to spare?

The best thing to do is to leave the scanner connected to the PC. Make
sure the PC-software is able to write a TIF(F) scanfile to disk and transfer
that file via a serial cable (using day-to-day communications packages)
to the Mac. All your friend needs to know is how to convert the File Type to
TIFF and most scan/paint packages can read the file. That's how we do it here.

Drop me a mail if you need more info.
