First Apple promised the color monitors for June, then July, then August. Now I hear they won't be available until November. Could the Apple people on the net respond as to when these will actually be available?? We have ordered one Mac II already ( last week we replaced the Apple Color Monitor on the order with someone else's) and plan to order 4 more before the end of the year. My question is I hope a very simple one: What presently is the best guess within Apple as to when the monitors announced in March will actually be available? How reliable is that guess? Thank you. By the way, the IBM PS/2 Model 50 is delayed by four months in our area.

Rumor has it here at Caltech that the AppleColor monitors are shipping NOW. However, Apple is unable to keep up with the rate of orders, much less catch up on the backlog of orders. _If_ you ordered your color monitor when the price list came out way back in March, you probably have (or will soon have) your color monitor. If (as I did) you ordered in June, re-order a B&W monitor and order a color monitor in January. I wonder what Apple is going to do with all those used B&W monitors??? ;-) - William Edward Woody Mac >> IBM && /|\ && ][n _____UNTIL 1 SEPTEMBER 1987_____ ______AFTER 1 SEPTEMBER 1987_____ woody@tybalt.caltech.edu Net Address Unknown woody@juliet.caltech.edu (I hope I get net access!) 1-54 Lloyd House 8038 N. Sell them to the people in the Third World, like every other kind of used,
umm, reconditioned hardware that noone want to buy in the US. :-|

The AppleColor monitor is now shipping. Quoted delay is approximately 60 days for monitors ordered today. The Apple people on the net are by and large programmers, not Apple marketing executives, so I don't think they can answer your question. And if you're really impatient, the Sony CPD 1302 is nearly as good, and available today at < $600 from major dealers. -- Joel West (c/o UCSD) Palomar Software, Inc., P.O. I am now ready to order a Mac II, but have not heard lately whether or not the color monitor is shipping or is still in short supply. What is the word?

I just got my MacII 3 weeks ago :-)), and the dealer I bought it from has monitors in stock, but they were still rare enough that they demanded full price ($999) for it. I bought a Sony 1302 Multiscan, and after comparing it to the MacII color screen at work, and more than satisfied with it. The only difference that is apparent is that the Apple screen has lots of glare, where the Sony screen has an anti glare treatment (which doesn't seem to alter the brightness or hue at all). Of course that is in Cupertino, perhaps Apple is shipping more units your way :-)? -------------------- Ken Wallich *My views are mine, and mine alone* Consultant "Camelot! I bought a bunch of IBM 5175 Analog RGB monitors at an auction and don't need them all. They work great as MAC ii color monitors (see oct 88 mac- user). $325 includes connector and instructions. These are 13" with .31 mm dot pitch and new in sealed IBM boxes. If you would like more info via mail or call 404-874-5051 after 7 p.m. est. -bob
