Sigh. Busy day. The following is a list of all currently available virus detection / prevention /elimination programs that *I* know of, including version numbers, file type andexact size in bytes. This list will eventually go into the virus guide I am madly in the process of finishing up, but I wanted to make sure it was right. If you have the time and inclination, please check this list against your lists and report any anomalies to me. In particular, I'd like to hear from the devlopers of these programs to make sure everything is right. The reason there are different versions of some programs is that new versions have just come out very recently and some people may still have the older ones. I want to cover all bases. You can find out most of the information from the "Get Info" menu selection under the File menu in the finder. If I've missed any programs entirely, please let me know as well (and where I can get them!) The newest version of Antipan is 1.1 and a few file sizes in Laura's list (Repair, RWatcher, Interferon) don't match with my samples. File size is especially not too useful with files like VirusDetective which is configurable and which stores that configuration in its resource fork. I also know of two german nVIR removers (EntVir and AntiVirus), and there are french counterparts, too. What I don't really understand is why people build virus remover collections. Some time ago, a dealer told me he was running twelve virus detectors every day, to be sure that his disk was clean. Most virus detector applications share the same detection algorithm. Running'em all is not necessary. I'd rather choose one or two single, stable programs, but use them regularly. -- Danny Schwendener ETH Macintosh Support
