I have a MAC II with 5MB of RAM. I'm hoping that someone out there can help me with these two problems. 1) When I leave an application (sometimes), I don't return anywhere. Clicking on open windows has no effect. I have to choose the application (or finder) from the apple menu. Sometimes this happens when I want to switch between Word and MacDraw II (which I usually do with no problem). Often it is when I leave printmonitor. 2) Several times per day, I can't open Excel. I get a message about memory fragmentation. According to "about finder", the largest unused block is at least 2MB, and Excel is configured for 1MB max. Any help at all would be appreciated. --> Any disclaimers, made by me or by anyone on my behalf, may or may not accurately represent my representation of myself or others. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Brian Jay Gould :: INTERNET gould@jvnca.csc.org BITNET gould@jvncc - - UUCP rutgers!njin!gould Telephone (201) 329-9616 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------s

We have seen a behavior similar to this when we used DeskPict to put the Apple Balls on our desk top. I don't know if this is a problem with Excel or DeskPict. > Any help at all would be appreciated. Try loading it as the first app (or quit all other apps and then load) and see if that works. Don't know about DeskPict. Currently there is not much you can do to fix this. Both known work-arounds are really kludgy. You can try re-booting and running Excel first, or run only unifinder. This headache causing limitation will go away in the next major release...RSN. It happens to me too (Mac II, 2 Mbytes memory). I'm usually switching
between Word and Canvas and/or VersaTerm. Yesterday, the little icon in the
menubar even disappeared (but that was a special case where I was trying to
print a PageMaker page and hadn't switched back to Finder).

ditto (though it's no big deal)
