My daughter's SE (with external 20M HD, otherwise vanilla 2 floppy setup) refused to turn on yesterday. No power (that is no noises, no initial diagnostics, nothing). Power was find (HD was whirring away). Nothing major had happened to machine (ie no drops). After verifying that all cords, etc., where tight and that there was no problem in our house sockets, I started to see whether there was anything I could do. I could find no external fuses nor any reset buttons. I didn't want to open the cover. Believing the power of prayer (:>) I tried the machine again, and low and behold it worked. Does anyone have any ideas? (The SE had been moved between houses a few weeks before, but it had worked for two weeks in the new location. Should I fear moving the machine again?) Thanks in advance for any help Neal Beck Dept. of Pol. Sci. beck@ucsd.edu beck@ucsd.BITNET

Perhaps you have the same problem that I once had with mine. For the first few months, my SE would run for several minutes just fine and then the power would drop for a second and the system would reset. The correction for this was to (gasp) open the unit and reseat the power connector to the logic board. I hope that may help you. -- Harry Dodgson Jr. Internet: dodgson@cs.wmich.edu Western Michigan University Computer Science Department Voice: (616) 387-5803 Kalamazoo, MI 49008
