As far as I understand, the newer SE's have 2 banks of memory, each supporting 4 identical-capacity SIMMs. The 2 meg configuration therefore comes with 8 256K SIMMS, so to upgrade, you would need to add 4 1 meg SIMMs (and have to sell/give away 4 256K SIMMs). This is confirmed by apple's Product Details sheet, "The Macintosh SE/30 Hard Disk 40 CPU with 2 megabytes of RAM can be upgraded to 5 megabytes [4*1+4*256K] with two 2-megabyte Memory Exansion kits, or 8 megabytes of RAM with four 2-megabyte Memory Expansion Kits." The 4 megabyte Mac SE/30 must be equipped with 4 1 meg SIMMs. Rumor has it that memory prices will be *very* low by summer...... Also, does anybody know the status of A/UX on the SE/30? I spoke with someone at Apple who told me that A/UX would not be officially supported for the SE/30 as "the SE/30 can't support an A/UX drive.." What was she talking about? She said that the A/UX could only support small drives. I think it's nonsense! And... has anybody out there had experience with Microtech hard drives? They have a five-year parts and labor warranty and their prices are quite competitive (as are the specs. of their drives). Any horror stories before I jump in? Thanks in advance! -David Robinowitz
