[comp.sys.mac] macse30 HW/SW notes

Several points come to mind concerning the new Mac SE/30:

Looking at the motherboard, the SE/30 cannot possibly have two internal
FDHD or other floppy drives since there is only one internal drive port.

An opening still exists in the back of the case, so the potential exists
for a third-party developer to run the new 030 Direct Slot line out the
back of the machine. Several options then exist. Apple claims the
NuBus logic design can be converted to the 030 Direct Slot design using
the same NuBus drivers, and with an external port, the vertical slot
positioning physical incompatibility is gone. The 030 Direct Slot line
could also run into an external device box. This device box could contain
logic to multiplex the 030 Direct Slot into 4 or 5 Direct Slots so that
an SE/30 owner could get a color monitor card AND a sound card AND an
ethernet card, instead of having to choose one card only.

The SE/30 upgrade kit for an SE supposedly comes with 1M of SIMM. Do we
keep the 1M in the SE and add it to the SE/30 for 2M or do the SIMMs go
back to Apple? Also, does anyone have an accurate price list? I have
seen prices ranging from $4000-$6500 list and $2500-$4000 educational.

How much of the currently available SE software will run on the SE/30?
Will programs that run in color under the Mac II's run in color on the
SE/30 if you have a color card?

These are just some early thoughts. Hopefully someone out there knows
the answers. Thanks.
