[comp.sys.mac] Geneology programs: any suggestions?

moreno@maui.cs.ucla.edu (02/05/89)

Does anybody have suggestions on geneology programs?

I'm aware of two HyperCard stacks, called Geneology and Gene,
respectively (hope I got the names right?) that are either public
domain or shareware. Any comments on these two or any other
programs?

Thanks in advance!

There has been a lot of discussion recently on soc.roots about a new program
called PAF for the the Macintosh (actually not new, just new to the Mac) put
out by the Mormon Church. It has been getting great reviews by the users.
Cost is $35 (can't beat that!) - you have to order it from them.

The phone number I have written down is 800-247-3892; I'm not sure this is the
correct one, there was some disagreement about the number. Anyway, if this one
doesn't work, try posting to soc.roots and someone will come up with the
correct one.

My father has this program, the full name is Personal Ancestral File
ver 2.1 for the Mac. It is a good program (especially considering the
very low price).
He gave this address to write for the program:

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints
	Family History Dept.
	Ancestral File Operations Unit, 2WW
	50 East, North Temple St.
	Salt Lake City, UT 84150

I bought this software for my husband for Christmas. We're both interested
in geneology, but he is more active about searching. He's not computer
oriented at all (part of the reason we have a Mac) and loves this program.
He's converted quite a bit of the stuff he had on paper to the program
format. I'd say the program is well worth the $35!
I think I was the one to start the discussion about the 800 number for
orders - it changed right around the first of the year. I don't have the
new one with me, so I can't be sure whether the one given above is correct
or not. I'll try to re-post it later.
