[comp.sys.mac] Gif pictures and DeskPict

paryavi@harris.cis.ksu.edu (Saiid Paryavi) (02/07/89)

I have been trying to setup a gif picture as my background using DeskPict. I
used Giffer 1.0 to save the picture in resource id=0 format (startup screen) and
then placed the new file in my system folder. On startup, the picture does
appear as the desktop background, however, the colors and the resolution are
distorted. It seems like the picture is being displayed in 16 color mode
instead of 256. Anyone has run into this problem before? Any solutions?

Using: Mac II, 5meg RAM, 8 bit video, Apple RGB, system 6.02, etc.

Thanks

I think it could be either of two things.

     1. The GIF image uses a custom colour lookup table (most do) which
does not match your standard Apple clut (if your using Giffer,
try the display using system colours option to see if this is the
problem). If this is the problem send me e-mail, as I've posted
         a way around this before.

    2. The other possibility is (and I haven't seen this in a long while),
that you need to re-set the monitors cdev in the control panel to
        256. Actually select it, click on 256 (even though it is already
displayed.. this got me), close the control panel and re-boot.

Hope this help,
