[comp.sys.mac] understanding appl. exit codes

When an application dies under multifinder, sometimes a
window appears, saying something like "The application has
unexpectedly quit (2)". Does anyone know how to interpret the number
that appears in the brackets (it isn't always 2 :-)?

One of the best aids to interpreting the system error numbers, is Bill
Steinberg's System Errors Table (I believe the latest is version 2.0).

The (2) error I believe is an out of memory condition that has been trapped
by MultiFinder. I'm not 100% sure if these are independant errors generated
by MF or whether they are standard system errors that MF has managed to trap
before it generates a DS bomb (just took a waltz through the tech notes and
IM and couldn't find any reference to independant MF error messages..).

The information is also available with MPW, but the DA makes it much
more available and useable.

If you can't get access to this in Oz, let me know by e-mail, and I'll send
it to you.
