I am looking for a unix grep type program for the mac. I need to search through many Microsoft Word files loking for certain keywords and do not want to have to open each file with word and do a search on each file individually. Thanks for your consideration in advance. Reply to: lrm@a.cs.wvu.wvnet.edu Larry Metzger GTA Systems WVU

There is a grep DA called Grep-WC 1.2 on sumex that you can ftp. The shell command search (or is it find?) in MPW 2.0 (and certainly 3.0) supports regular expression matching (so does LSC for that matter). A program that you may wish to look into is one called "GoFER" by Microlytics (?) This program searches thru any readable file for certain keywords (ex. Text fields in HyperCard and MacDraw, MacWrite, Word, Works, text files, etc.). I hope this helps you out Richard G. Brewer rbrewer@wpi.bitnet tron@wpi.wpi.edu

Larry- If you are looking for a unix-type grep function for the Mac, you may want to look at Qued/M from Paragon. It is a souped-up text editor that may work for you, since it will search files that aren't open. It also lets you use Regular Expressions similar to those found in Unix. --Lyle D.
