[comp.sys.mac] Latest version of ResEdit

bmug@garnet.berkeley.edu (BMUG) (02/09/89)

The version of ResEdit which I have is 1.2b4. I obtained it a couple
weeks before the Expo (where APDA was selling version 1.2b3). Version
1.2b4 has several improvements over 1.2b3, notably:
	- Selection window (where you see the scrolling list of files,
resources, etc.) is RESIZEABLE. It has a grow box.
	- Pickers (not Editors) for 'cicn', 'crsr', and 'ppat' resources.
These resources are for color icons, color cursors, and
color patterns. The pickers work in the same manner as their
b&w counterparts. You can see what they look like, but there
is no underlying editor. Double-clicking on a color icon
just brings up a general hexdump -- there's no color
		fat-bits editor.
	- A nicer PICT picker. It displays small (approx 1.75 inch square)
versions of each picture. By resizing the picker window, you
can see as many of these small pictures as will fit on your
screen at once (six on a 9" screen). Double-clicking on a
picture brings up a window with the picture at full size.

These are the only new features I have found so far (by using ResEdit
to look at its own resources). The date in the About box on version
1.2b4 is Dec. 5, 1988, whereas that of version 1.2b4 is Sept 19, 1988.

What I (and I am sure, everyone else) would like to know, is where
did you get it? The Apple Tech Rep here was in last night and I
mentioned it to him so we quickly checked AppleLink and it still
claims to be 1.2b3 (though it is curious that the date on it is
January 17, long after 1.2b3 came out. Did somebody not change the
version number when they posted it? Thanks.
