How does the SE/30 HD40 stack up against third party drives? My instincts are to get the SE/30 w/out an internal HD and instead buy something like the Jasmine Backpack (does it fit the SE/30?). That way if the drive crashes I can still use the machine. Wisdom from the peanut gallery? --Tom mcdougal@gargoyle.uchicago.edu

I thought seriously about getting a Backpack until I took a close look at one at MacWorld. It's a great looking, convenient appearing drive except for one small detail. Looks like you can kiss off using your expansion slot for anything that needs to get to the outside world. There's no place to run a connector out of the back of the Mac (e.g. a monitor cable) with one of these in place. So I bought a regular under-the-Mac external drive instead. -- Hank Shiffman (415) 336-4658 AI Product Marketing Technical Specialist ...!sun!shiffman Sun Microsystems, Inc. shiffman@Sun.com Zippy sez: Is something VIOLENT going to happen to a GARBAGE CAN?
