[comp.sys.mac] WriteNow 2.0 problem

) (02/16/89)

re: the problem some people have had launching WriteNow 2.0.

There is a problem (that T/Maker knows about) with converting files.
Try the following:
1. Create a "text" file (from another application), say "Foo Text"
2. Launch WriteNow and use Open (Text file type) to import the file.
3. Write it out as a WriteNow format file using Save As "Foo WriteNow"
4. Exit WriteNow.

Notice that the file you created is named "Untitled-1" (or similar).

5. Double-click "Untitled-1" -- WriteNow exits with error -43.

When I reported this, T/Maker came up with the following work-around:

Save the file into a directory whose folder is not open on the desktop.

I suspect that there is a file name cache operation that is not properly
updating the disk directory contents. Whether this is a bug in WriteNow
or Multifinder is anyone's guess.
