I am looking for a good "how to" book about how to improve one's singing. Surely, there is such a book with exercises for increasing one's musical range and ability. Francie Newbery (fjn@purdue.arpa)

Improving your vocal mechanics, in my experience, really requires a voice coach, since it is hard to be objective about how you sound, and since it is hard to describe a "desirable" vocal sound in a book well enough to do any good. If you want ear training or sight-singing exercises, the definitive book is by Paul(?) Hindemidth(?) "Ear Training for Young Musicians" (or something like that). This book will take you as far as you want to go.
