[comp.sys.mac] Some problems with Coral Allegro CL

hodges@COGNET.UCLA.EDU (02/15/89)

I am running Allegro CL 1.2.1 on a MacII with 5 Meg RAM
and a Rodime 140, sometimes with and sometimes without
multifinder. I have had the following problems and am
wondering if you Lisp hackers out there have any advice
to offer.

  1. Sometime when I am backtracing the system hangs
and I have to reboot (not fun)
  2. I need to save a new image with PCL compiled to
make life easier. I also need to save an image for
environment restoring later on. I cannot find any
system-dependent commands for saving the environment
in my manual (admittedly a 1.1 version). Does anyone
     know how to do this.
  3. I need to track memory usage during execution and
wonder if anyone knows if the (room t) function will
     work.
  4. Is there a programmers/developers manual aside from
the users manual that might help to resolve issues of
     implementation?

For now these are the only problems that I have encountered.
Minor ones, really, and the product seems like a very good one,
but I'd be happier with answers to the above questions. Does
anyone know if Coral has a version of CLOS out yet? Also, does
anyone have their new phone number out here?

Unfortunately, I can only echo your concerns, as I don't have any answers to
yours.

However, I am about to embark on a short-term project for class to implement
a hypertext application. I have not determined the approach yet, but given
the range of options provided by Allegro Common Lisp, e.g., it Object Lisp
capability, PCL (although your note makes me wonder), Foreign Function Interface,
I was wondering whether there are any things I should be aware of in terms of
limitations that I might run into using ACL. I intend to provide as much of
a mac-like interface as possible, though will not be straying into the hypercard
realm.

P.S. Any responses, either here or via e-mail, will be responded to if I ever
manage to figure out how. But, on the other hand, having seen several queries
about ACL, I would like to read about some of the answers, so "here" would be
good.
