[comp.sys.mac] Advice on buying Mac SE

ssm5y@uvaee.ee.virginia.EDU (Shankha S. Mitra) (02/09/89)

I am thinking on buying a Mac, probably an SE w/ a 20meg hard. I used to
use Macs quite a lot a few yrs ago, and didn't use them much for a while.
I need one now, but I have kind of lost touch as to what has happened in
the Mac line so far. Can some kind and generous soul give me some advice
as to what the differences are between the Macs (not Mac II as it is out
of my meagre funds) and any other related comments.

Please send me e-mail only as I don't read this newsgroup regularly.

Thank you very, very much.

What should do is buy the Macintosh SE with 2 floppies
drive. Then, pick-up a third party hard disk from say
CMS or Crate Technology ( that's an internal HD). These
companies make rear-mount internal HD's which let
you use two floppies. Yes, I know people say you don't
need two floppies but it always nice to have around when
say your hard drive flakes out. I bought an SE with an
Apple 20SCSI internal and regreted it! Apple's 20mb
internal (really a Miniscribe) was sluggish to say the
least. I think they changed maker of HD's several times
though. But, my advice is get a Mac SE with two floppies
then pick-up a third party hard disk. It will cost the
same as buying a Mac SE with Apple' 20MB installed.
