[comp.sys.mac] Greyscale pics in 4th Dimension

mha@batcomputer.tn.cornell.edu (Mark H. Anbinder) (02/20/89)

I set up a 4D database for an organization I'm part of that includes a
photograph of each person in the record. I scanned each picture using
my ThunderScan, did some cleaning up on some of them (though not others)
using ImageStudio, and then pasted into my 4th Dimension database. The
pictures appear in greyscale form on the screen within 4D when my Mac II
is in more-than-2-color mode. However, when I try to laser print a
member list, the pictures are all rendered in 2-color versions that result
in horrible-looking pictures. There's no dithering going on to produce
greys on the paper; there are just black areas and white areas.

Am I missing something that I should be doing in 4D to get the pictures
to print properly? Does 4D's printing routines simply not include a way
of printing greyscale images? If that's the case, why is it willing to
display them for me?

My goal is to end up with my member list printed out with good looking
pictures alongside the address information. If anyone can help me
achieve that, I will be ecstatic. Well, okay, quite pleased. :-)

Please respond via e-mail... I'll summarize to the net if it seems worth it.
