[comp.sys.mac] StuffIt vs. BinHex4

richard@perle.UUCP (Richard Outerbridge) (02/21/89)

Last month when the MandelZot program was posted through
comp.binaries.mac it was discovered that one of the original files
could not be un-binhexed by BinHex4, and the problem was traced back
to using StuffIt to binhex encode the file. Raymond Lau was notified,
and he's spent a lot of time trying to figure out what is going on.

He still doesn't know. But we do know what the workaround is. The
problem only occurs if the file being binhexed by StuffIt has 26, 27
or 28 characters in its name. Twenty-five or fewer works fine; so
does twenty-nine or more. Just avoid 26, 27 and 28. Ray is still
anxious to clear this up, but he's reasonably sure the problem is not
in StuffIt. Any suggestions?
