[comp.sys.mac] MacDraw II text formatting

binder@eniac.seas.upenn.edu (Tim Binder) (02/22/89)

I was just using MacDraw II (1.0) and for the first time I mixed bold (and
outline/shadow/etc) in one line with regular text and the "special" words
ended up overlapping the plain text. Is this a known problem, perhaps with
System 6.0.2 or just Claris (who should know better)? It doesn't seem to
happen in MacWrite 5.0, so maybe it is a graphics program bug.
Additionally, if anyone has comments on alternate graphics programs,
particularly SuperPaint 2.0 and possibly Canvas, could they please e-mail me.
I like the MacDraw setup generally, but the inability to flip text and the
way it handles text is major bummer. (I have SuperPaint 1.1 & am considering
upgrading it).
  Thanks in advance.

From the Introduction to Superpaint 2.0 (an excellent manual, BTW):

"Text and objects in both the Paint and Draw layers can be scaled, freely
rotated, flipped, or slanted."

Lots of examples follow. I also thought I remembered reading that you can
still edit text after you manipulate it like this, but don't quote me.

I can't wait to get Word 4.0 so I get my own personal copy of Superpaint 1.1.
I'm going to upgrade right away. Superpaint 2.0 has some really fun paint
tools. I almost never paint anything, but I think I'll start.

I haven't tried anyone else's autotrace, but this one seems straightforward
enough. However, the first thing I tried would not print. It produced a
postscript error. The example they provide works fine.

I found it easier to handle the Bezier curve when editing it. The only
other program I tried was Canvas, and I couldn't get the hang of how to
control the curves right away as I could with Superpaint 2.0.

I'm not very happy with Deneba (Canvas) right now anyways. They told me to
send my 2.0 disks back since I couldn't make white text on black boxes.
That's the last I heard from them. So I'm out my disks for several months
now, since 2.0 came out. I'm still using the original Canvas just because
that's what all my artwork used. I'm thinking of redoing everything with
Superpaint 2.0 or MacDraw II.
