[comp.sys.mac] Repeating 6.0.3 problem.

jeffb@eleazar.dartmouth.edu (Jeffrey C. Buchsbaum) (02/26/89)

No one has answered my queries, and I still get frozen in 6.0.3 as per bellow,
but not in 6.0.2. Everything else stays the same:

I think I have found a serious bug in 6.0.3 system from Apple. I cannot do
a disk to disk (floppy) copy with my MacII. It has only its roms and an
800k drive. The FDHD is coming, but I have not gotten it yet....
Anyway, I try dragging either a file, folder, or whole disk; and it asks me for
the other disk. Probably some check routine.... At this point everything
freezes. I have dumped all inits and extraneous cdevs. No luck. It sticks
at the same place every time. This did not happen with 6.0.2 at all. Granted,
6.0.3 is for the SE, but I have an 030 daughterboard in my 020 socket . . .
I even cleaned the drive itself, no dice.
Also, I got my (2) 2meg kits from Apple, and they were 100ns. I was wondering
if the 120 ns 256k simms are slowing things down, a lot? How fast can the ram
of a nubus board be accessed (100ns). Specifically, the National Semiconductor
ram board looks really nice. Is the 10Mhz of the NuBus a brake on the system?
Should I take out the 256k simms to avoid wait states.
Finally, how long until a 32bit system. What will crash and burn? Is it
true a 7.0b1 is with MPW 3.0 SADE? If you have it, what does it do?
Is the beta multifinder availible at any ftp sites?

System in question: MacII, 40 meg int, 85 meg ext, 5 megs ram, system 6.0.2/3,
multifinder on. One 800k floppy. Marathon 030 turbocharger.
Inits in and out, same problem. Please help.

Thanks.

I have not followed the net traffic in a while. What's all this about System
6.0.3? When did it come out? Is it buggy? What's new?

I'd appreciate it if you could reply via EMAIL. I'm not able to access the
net that often. Thanks a lot!!
