After replacing my System file following the crash described in an
earlier posting, I noticed that the CompareForks utilty ran properly
under Multifinder, but, when run under Finder, caused a system alert
message with ID=01.
I couldn't find a list of system halt codes with my Apple
documentation. Where can I find these? I can't believe there isn't
a text file somewhere in the net that lists error numbers and their
associated reasons. I've checked SUMEX. There's a desk accessory
that will display error codes, but there doesn't appear to be a
plain text file.
Thanks in advance for any pointers. Please respond by mail.

There is a book, Mac Insights (Microsoft Press 1986) which lists system and non-system error IDs. It also has a more comprehensive troubleshooting section than Apple's documentation. If you can't find this book, e-mail me and I will send you the codes (there are 200+ of them and I'm too lazy to type them just yet!) drue miller carnegie mellon university dm2q@andrew.cmu.edu

It's just a scrolling list, DS errors first, then other error codes in numeric order. Handy... =Ned=

DA that lists 'em all. It was just recently posted to comp.binaries.mac. I think it's called System Errors. -- jim -- -- jim petrick petrick@dms.UUCP ...ames!amdahl!pyramid!weitek!dms!petrick ...coherent!aimt!weitek!dms!petrick
