I'm thinking about doing a Dove upgrade of my 512E, but don't know how far to go. I want the upgrade to at least 1 meg + scsi, but do I go the next step to 2 meg? Criteria include: what programs can't I run that I might want to; are there special operating problems to get software to recognize the extra memory; do I get to be part of the new software being developed for SEs and IIs minus ROM changes; usw. -- David E. Definitely the SCSI and as much memory as your wallet (or spouse) will allow. Once you start using MultiFinder, you'll want to run everything under it [and find that you are a *lot* more productive]. All of the ROM patches that you'll require for System 7 [RSN :-)] need memory. Also, there are a *lot* of nice inits out there .... Given [I forget]'s Law (memory requirement/usage for a given machine architecture grows by 1 address bit every 18 months), Macs should be at 2 meg to be productive with current software, 4 meg by 1990. -- Elliott Frank ...!{hplabs,ames,sun}!amdahl!esf00 (408) 746-6384 or ....!{bnrmtv,drivax,hoptoad}!amdahl!esf00 [the above opinions are strictly mine, if anyone's.] [the above signature may or may not be repeated, depending upon some inscrutable property of the mailer-of-the-week.]
