OK, who else here reads Macworld and read Steven Levy's article in the April issue? I knew there was some reason I subscribed... Levy says that Bill Gates showed him (and only him) IBM's Mac-killing clone, which uses Apple's system software on top of custom ROMs that were reverse- engineered so as to look exactly like Apple's own ROMs, but making them a legal copy. Comes with Works and Word 4.0 in ROM, runs a 68030 chip that is twice as fast as a Mac IIx, a 1/3 height 60meg hard drive, one slot, a 2400 baud modem, and a fax chip. With a monochrome monitor it's $800, color is only $1000. The intro date? April 1. WHAT AN APRIL FOOL'S JOKE! Now, if the price were more in the $3000-$4000 range I could have actually, possibly believed him, but... IMHO, maybe something like that would finally kick Apple in the butt and get them moving faster and leaner... Blake "Hey, where's *MY* fancy signature?" Sobiloff sobiloff@thor.acc.stolaf.edu
