Well, I was waiting for the VideoTrax backup software to get finished (you know, the program/hardware combo that lets you back up your hard disk to your VCR) and released but I just found out that it will be at least another 3-4 months until it's ready (at lest that whats they said when I called them). Unfortunately, I can't wait any longer. If I do many more full backups of 75megs to floppies I think I will go crazy! So... I am looking for information about tape backup technologies (and specific instances thereof) for the Macintosh. I have a MacII with 5megs of memory and a 90meg hard disk. I will also be getting another hd, probably 140megs or so, very soon. I am wondering about the 60/80meg tape drives I see advertised. Do they all use 3M technology? Can they backup to multiple volumes (ie., from my 90meg disk to 2 60meg tapes)? Who sells the system with the most versitile software? Should I go third party on the software or won't that work. Also, are any of the bigger tape drives standouts? If I can't backup to multiple volumes, I will definately need to get one of these instead. Finally, I've seen a TEAC advertisement (page 295 Apr. '89 MacUser) which talks about a drive based on the Philips cassette format. It supposedly can write 155megs to one tape in 23 minutes. Does anyone know anything about any drives based on this technology? Please respond by e-mail and I will summarize to the net.
