I need some help. I have a disk with MacDraft documents that I need to convert to some format that can be read by another program. I have Canvas 2.0, but it can't seem to open MacDraft docs. I have access to a copy of MacDraw 1.9, but that says something about incorrect id and won't open it. I won't go out and by MacDraft just to read these documents. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a Mac II w/ 5MB memory running Sys. 6.0.2 if that makes any difference. -- Jim Clausing Voice: (201)758-7693 Parallel Processing Tools Grp. [...] I used to work at IDD, the company that wrote MacDraft. The only two programs in existence that read MacDraft files are MacDraft and the MacDraft to Dreams translation program that comes with the Dreams CAD program. The translator wouldn't help you at all since it just translates to another proprietary file format. What you have to do is to ask whoever gave you these files to resave them in PICT format. Or find someone who has MacDraft and get them to resave the files for you. If you get really desperate, I suppose you could mail the files to me and I could translate them for you. I'm sure you should be able to find someone with MacDraft though. No flames about proprietary formats please. I had nothing to do with it and I believe both the MacDraft and Dreams file formats are available on request. Trust me, unless you're a developer, you don't want to read these formats. I know, I've seen the code. :-) +++ Lloyd Lim Internet: lim@iris.ucdavis.edu Compuserve: 72647,660 US Mail: 146 Lysle Leach Hall, U.C. Davis, Davis, CA 95616

You should be able to open them in MacDraft, select everything, copy it and then paste it into MacDraw. I recall doing this a couple years ago without too much trouble.... >I won't go out and by MacDraft just to read these documents. You can probably find someone at a local user group, university or even a computer store that would let you use their copy of MacDraft long enough to make the conversions. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :: Boyd Ostroff, Technical Director :::::: System Operator, "The CallBoard" ::: :::: Dept of Theatre, SUNY Oswego ::::::: (315) 947-6414 300/1200/2400 baud ::: ::::: ostroff@oswego.Oswego.EDU :::::::: rutgers!sunybcs!oswego!cboard!sysop :: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

This works, but appears to have a side effect. Awhile ago I took a regular MacDraw file, opened it in MacDraw II, made a few small changes and saved it as PICT. I then opened the PICT file in regular MacDraw again. It worked fine, but it was incredibly SLOW - you could watch it individually draw each line segment. This was a large file with well over 1000 objects, and it became totally unusable due to its slow screen updates. I tried saving it as a MacDraw format file, but it was still too slow to use. Has anyone else experienced this problem with PICT files? ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :: Boyd Ostroff, Technical Director :::::: System Operator, "The CallBoard" ::: :::: Dept of Theatre, SUNY Oswego ::::::: (315) 947-6414 300/1200/2400 baud ::: ::::: ostroff@oswego.Oswego.EDU :::::::: rutgers!sunybcs!oswego!cboard!sysop :: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
