I am the owner of a Mac+ with "lonely harts" {vers a} ROMs. I normaly run in both floppy based and hard drive modes, requiring removing & replacing the SCSI cable from the back of the MAC+. I now have 2.5 megs RAM & 2 SCSI drives, scanner to be added within 6 mo & am having problems. Everyone is blaming my problems on the early ROMs. I'm tired of having to tear down my system every time I want to hide my hard disks from a floppy. I posted a note asking about a free ROM upgrade that was mentioned on the net about a year ago. I was told that product notice OKJ767 on page 8.4.8 would get me upgraded ROMS & the dealer reimbursed for parts {not labor}. I called my local dealer & was told that this was for people with damaged ROMs where the Mac owner payed for 1 ROM {about $80 I think} and Apple paid for the other & The Mac owner paid for labor. The dealer even called Apple to varify this for me. At this rate, it would be cheaper too buy another digital board....they do come with ROMs, don't they?? What happened to the often talked about ROM upgrade for those of uswho have early Mac+s?? Why is it I'm about ready to trash the Mac & replace it with a HP UNIX system at employee prices??? Does anyone have any other info on a ROM upgrade?? Anyone have prices for a digital board swap that includes new vers ROMS?? Anyone have any suggestions?? TeriAnn twakeman@hpcea.ce.hp.com

TeriAnn, I got three Mac+ with old ROMs (don't know what they were called) replace with new ROMs at the end of last year. All I paid was the labor charge ($40 per machine). The old ROMs weren't damage. Sounds like you should ask another apple dealer. John Salmento ziggy+@andrew.cmu.edu P.S. Oh.. Ididn't get to keep the old ROMs they were sent back to apple.
