A few weeks ago, I complained that Multiplan 1.11 didn't work on my Mac II under System 6.0.2, and solicited suggestions for a cheap replacement. Besides the recommendations I asked for, I got responses that led me to investigate Multiplan further. If you're a Multiplan owner, here are your choices: 1. Ditch it. 2. Wait for an upgrade. Microsoft Tech Support tells me that Multiplan does not work under system software later than System 4.1, Finder 5.5 and that no upgrade is planned. An MS development manager insisted to me that Multiplan is "not dead," but I'm not holding my breath. 3. Revert your system software to System 4.1, Finder 5.5. 4. (This is the strange one.) Revert your Multiplan to 1.02! An EE Times account of Chris Espinosa demonstrating Multiplan on a IIcx led me to dig out my oldest Multiplan disk and try it. It works, although there are sometimes problems with drawing the column dividers. There are also minor problems with updating of other applications' windows under Multifinder. The copy protection is trivial to defeat (just make a copy of the locked, invisible, bozo, file-protected key file on your hard disk), so I've installed this on my hard disk in place of 1.11. There's no need to patch Multiplan itself.
