[comp.sys.mac] tabs in PageMaker

bluebum@westfort.UUCP (Barry Chern) (03/23/89)

I just had a frustrating problem with PageMaker, and Aldus tech support
didn't have any ideas on the matter. This involves a style for a catalog, using
t tab" to keep the prices on the right margin of the column, with a dot
eader. There are no other tabs in the paragraph, so there's the tab before the
price and a return after the price. Only one paragraph per item. Justified.
The problem comes when the line is of a length that wraps right at the tab.
If the entire paragraph fits on one line, or anything before the tab wraps to
the next line, it works. But if only the price is on a line, the tab just
doesn't work. PM uses the tab as a place to wrap the line, and seems to leave
it behind on the previous line insted of keeping it with the price where it
blongs.
Tech support says that this just has to do with the way PM works, it uses a
number of characters including tabs as places to break a line. They say they
never heard of this being a problem before. Most people use returns in every
line if they're doing "tabulation." I can't believe nobody else has ever tried
to set up a catalog like this. Anyone know of any workarounds, perhaps a way I
can force a line to break before the tab more often? Otherwise, I just have to
go through the whole thing and find the bad lines and type in tabs until one
es, I guess.

Thanks, Barry

Anybody ask you 'what about it',
Just tell 'em 'that's all; that's all.'
