Can anyone summarize the ways in which styled TextEdit is not SM compatible?

I've got a small application that uses styled TextEdit, and while I was
debugging it I ended up looking at some things real closely with TMON, and
the TextEdit routines were calling the Script Manager for such things as
measuring text.

Aside from the above evidence, it would surprise me a great deal if Apple
left out such basic compatibility.

I've redirected followups to comp.sys.mac.programmer, since this is not
really of general interest...
