[comp.sys.mac] Imagewriter printing problem

mdixon@arisia.Xerox.COM (Mike Dixon) (03/24/89)

when i print a long document from MS word on my imagewriter (from
an upgraded 512KE, but it happened before the upgrade) it very
often prints ok for six or seven pages, then suddenly skips to a
new page half way through printing the previous one, and continues
with the page alignment completely screwed up (and a small amount
of text lost). this makes it extremely frustrating to try to get
a reasonable printout of a 40 page document.

has anyone else seen this problem, or have any idea what might
cause it? it has persisted across new versions of word and the
system (i thought system 6 had fixed it, but it's happening again).
i don't know whether the problem is specific to word, since i never
print long documents from any other application.

We're seeing some similar problems with the LaserWriter. So far it's
looking like the common element is SE (usually with original 20 Mbyte
drives) and Megascreen monitors. These are some of the oldest systems
and no one asked Megascreen for new software until recently. I had
already found that Quickeys is incompatible with these monitors.

I don't know if anyone has even installed the new Megascreen software
(three people are involved and they aren't very experimental). They
don't know what problems are supposedly fixed. If I can get any useful
information, I'll post it. Meanwhile, please look for other instances
of missing text. Sometimes it's only a small portion and difficult to
find unless you make an effort to compare the printed document with
that on disk. (or so they tell me).
