I imagine that a discussion of classical music favourites could
get pretty long (if anybody showed any interest, that is), since
everybody seems to have some favorite (i don't care how i spell it)
classical piece that is different from everyone else's classical
selection. This of course being due to the large amount of
classical music that isn't well known, especially compared to
rock'n'pop music.

Myself? well now... rather than dealing with favorites qua favorites,
I'll suggest "Carmina Burana". This is a set of 12th century
monkish manuscripts discovered in the 1800s and set to music by
Carl Orff. The result is a bunch of short sort-of-choral pieces
of different tones and subjects.  The recording I have is DG 139362;
(sorry, DG = Deutsche Grammophon), by the "Chor und orchester der
deutschen oper berlin", conducted by Eugen Fochum.

Whoops... bad typing in the previous article. The name of the
conductor is "Eugen Jochum", not "Fochum".
