[comp.sys.mac] Ehman HDs information wanted

This is request # 2. Has anyone out there in mac land had any experience
with the inexpensive Ehman hard drives. I am planning to buy a 65mg drive
for $649. This includes 2yr warranty, cable, and formatting software. Any
response would be appreciated.

A couple of friends of mine bought the Ehman 30 meg drives. They haven't had
any problems, but they have a pretty noisy fan. It came pre-formated with lots
of PD and shareware software.

I have an Ehman 32M HD. I am very pleased with it. The only difficulty I had
was waiting for it to be shipped. Their initial shipping date was overly
optimistic, but they offered to ship it overnight (at their expense) once the
promised date was history.

They use Seagate drives (at least for the 32M) which appear to be significantly
faster than the Apple and Rodime drives I have compared it to. Unfortunately, I
do not remember the exact numbers.

One drawback is the noise level. The Ehman is louder than either of the above
mentioned drives. It is a deep, but steady, whirl which I do not find overly
distracting. Of course, I have been forced to accept the noise of a Sun drive
so this may bias my opinion.

I did crash the drive once. The technical assistance was friendly and helpful,
but the problem was only solveable by re-initializing the disk. The problem was
completely my own doing: I reset the Mac to abort a disk to disk copy. Don't
do it!

The PD software that comes on the drive is not too exciting. Much of it
appeared to be incompatible with the current System. There are some interesting
Hypercard and graphics routines.

To sum up my experience: I'm a satisfied customer and would buy from Ehman
again. The prices are by far the best I have seen.

I hope this is of some use to you.

I also would be interested in info on Ehman HDs. Given the number
of info requests, I'd think a posting would be in order.....
