This is the denoument to my earlier font problem posting. It turns out that
my Mac is fine in every respect. The problem was that many, many months ago
I had been using Font/DA Juggler and I compressed all the files on my hard
disk. Then when I tried to read them using Font/DA mover (more recently) the
program read what I presume is bogus data and blew up. This really points
to two errors:
1) F/DA Juggler should have changed the owner of the file and the file type
so that the file's icon wouldn't be that of the normal Font file and so
Font/DA Mover wouldn't have agreed to open the file. This is a plain and
simple accident waiting to happen. A naive user would never, ever have
figured this problem out. F/DA Juggler doesn't even put a note in the
File's comments.
2) Font/DA Mover should perform some sanity checks. If the Font has more
entries, or has characters larger then some reasonable maximum (like
whatever size F/DA Movers's internal arrays are) it should exit with
an error or put up an Alert.
I'm kind of annoyed as I even went so far as to analyse the differences between
our Mac's ROM and the ROM in a friends (only to find the only difference was
a patch).
