After a particularly nasty system crash (my hard disk wouldn't boot afterwards until I'd removed a dead INIT), I noticed that part of the problem getting the volume working again was that my MultiFinder file had suddenly become an application. Yes, I know that MF is really an application in disguise, but this copy had really become a full-fledged APPL, busy-hand-on-diamond and all. Now, presumably I could change this back to a system-marked file, but could there be something else wrong with it? I'm running from another copy, but I really want to know what happened to the poor thing! :-) Note that this is TOTALLY separate from my "Can MultiFinder turn itself on?" posting. This latest happened on MY machine, not that of an uninitiated (or is it uninitialized...?) user. -- Mark H.
