[comp.sys.mac] How best to upgrade a LaserWriter II NTx

thurman@ihlpf.ATT.COM (Thurman) (04/08/89)

Does anyone have a feel for the "best" way to upgrade a LaserWriter II NTx?
I know it supports adding more memory (currently it has 2Meg), and it supports
a hard disk to store/cache fonts, and it supports more ROM fonts.

Which will give me the best performance improvement for the price:
 - Adding another few Meg (probably 2 or 4) of memory (?? $400 or 800 ??)
 - Adding a hard drive (20/40/60) meg (?? $400/550/700 ??)
 - Adding an expansion ROM font (I personally don't see this as the first step).

It seems to me that the hard drive would be the best first step, but does
anyone have any experience with this? Also, how much impact does disk speed
have (i.e., would a 40 or 60 millisecond access disk be SIGNIFICANTLY worse
than a 18 or 28 millisecond? etc.) Thanks.

If I get sufficient replies I will post a summary to the net.
