We hope someone out there has a solution for the following problems: (1) The upper floppy disk drive in my friend's SE recently failed to read/write/initialize any disk, shortly after the 90 days warranty. After we took out the drive from the SE, we found the problem is that one of the read/write head was bent. More precisely, the square shaped spring which supports the head was unbelievably distorted by some external force, so the head can't have a horizontal contact with the disk surface. Does anyone know where we can purchase, order the head assembly (which is separable from the rest of the drive) for replacement? The dealer here can only replace the whole drive unit, not what he can afford. Or is there anyone who has a broken floppy drive, but intact head assembly, and is willing to sell the drive? (2) My Apple 13" RGB monitor can not turn into complete black when the screen saver (Pyro!) activates, even after I turn the Brightness and Contrast all the way down. The background is very dark blue when the firework displays. Is this a problem with the monitor or video card (8 bit)? The same configuration runs well in our lab. I find a screw ajustable knob with brightness(?) icon on the back of the monitor, but can't find any documentation in the operation manual. What's its purpose there? Can someone give me any hint? Thanks in advance. -- --- Chih-Hsiang Chou chou@umn-cs.cs.umn.edu
