[comp.sys.mac] MacWorks+ 1.08 report and memory board question

alen@crash.cts.com (Alen Shapiro) (04/10/89)

I have had a chance to checkout macworks+ 1.08 now for about a month.
It is getting there and is very useable. It takes up too much of the
Lisa's (Mac XL) memory to make any sensible use of multifinder which
leads me on to the next part of the posting. Are there any Lisa boards
that will accept mac+ 256k SIMMS. I'd like a 4Mbyte Lisa and have the
SIMMS but no where to plug them (no rude suggestions please)? Anyway
back to the report.

Macworks+ 1.08 now uses 6.02 standard system files. It comes distributed
on 800k floppies (Sun Remarketing say it will not fit on 400k and so cannot
be used unless you have an 800k internal) Fooey to that!! Using a ramdisk
(temporary) and a lot of disk swaps and a cut-down (no das/minimum fonts)
system 6.02 I've installed 1.08 using a 400k internal and 10Mbyte Hard
disk. Once installed the ramdisk and cut-down system are not necessary.

Serial line A still behaves badly - when input arrives at high throughput
rate on a 2400 baud line, it often starts autorepeating a single char
outbound. The char it chooses to repeat seems random. This mode may be
stopped by typing a single character.

At startup, the keyboard seems to behave as if the option key is being
pressed - a single press of this key at boot time, resets the keyboard.

It's almost there guys - when are the fixes due? keep up the good work.
