I am looking into buying a Mac system (see: LSC and the SE/30), and I want to get some advice from some owners/users out here in net-world. I was originally planning to get a Mac IIx (or now cx). One of my motivations was color-I wanted to do some high quality color graphics. Unfortunately the standard Mac II only supports 8-bit colors; I want 24-bits. I would also like a large monitor to put the images on (on the order of 1k x 1k), but these start around 5k I believe (I am on a limited budget). The result: I would be running 8-bit color on a small screen (probably Apple's). I have also noticed that moving windows (w/pictures) around the screen in 8-bit mode is painfully slow. If Apple moves to 32-bit color like the rumor mill says, how slow will it be then? So I think I am going to move to the Mac SE/30. This will give me the speed and processing power of a IIx at a lower price. (ANY COMMENTS???). Later I could buy a 32-bit video card and a large monitor when they become standard and I have the money. Now, how about software? I see complaints about different software not working on the IIs and the SE/30. The software packages I was planning on purchasing are MS Word (current vers not 4.0 (too expensive)), MacPaint, MacDraw (once again, the older versions, but I figure its easier to upgrade software), and LSC. Anyone have any experience with these on an SE/30??? Finally, I want at least one game! I purchased Chuck Yeager's flight simulator not too long ago (run it at school); anyone know how it works on an SE/30?? How about Colony? I've heard people mention it, but I have never seen it. I am kinda of interested in something that takes advantage of the SE/30s speed. (I always purchase my software (not copy it) for a variety of reasons, so I have to make sure the game I choose will keep me happy for a while) If you could comment on some of these points, I would really appreciate it.
