I have run into a problem with some scanned images from our recently acquired Apple scanner. I wonder if anyone might have a suggestion as to which programs can handle LARGE pict files... A typical scanner file of an 8&1/2 by 11 inch image can typically run up to 1 meg with the type of materials we are scanning. Now, the AppleScan program itself doesn't have any problems with this, but we would like to import these images into some program like MacDraft to be able to lay in other graphics on top of them (example: we have scanned a USGS topo map, and would like to lay in some boxes with various patterns in them to indicate "study areas" for a research paper in forestry). For smaller scanned images, I have found that MacDraft will either open directly, or I can cut and paste. However, for anything approaching a full size page, everything I have tried has bombed. I THOUGHT that maybe there wasn't enough memory in the machine to hold the image, but I have tried with a 4 meg Mac Plus, and have not noticed any significant difference in the way thing work (or in this case, don't work). Much of our software is a couple of generations back (the budget is tight on upgrades), so if anyone knows whether new versions of the various graphics programs can handle LARGE pict files, I would be most grateful to know. Or if anyone has any other suggestions, they would be most welcome also. A summary will be posted to the net if responses warrant.
