When I try to compile a table of contents using Word 3.01 on a large multi-file document it runs out of memory - even though there is plenty available. Is this a bug in Word, and if so, can I get around it? I've tried the same operation with MultiFinder on and off, and with the MF partition size increased to 500K - no dice. When MultiFinder is on, the little bar graphs in the About Finder... box show that word has lots of memory available. Then why won't it use it? I'm using a Mac Plus with 1M, running finder 6.1 and system 6.0.2 Any help appreciated, as this is driving me mad! -- Frank O'Dwyer, e-mail: FMODWYER@cs.tcd.ie Dept. of Computer Science, Trinity College Dublin, IRELAND.

If I recall, I had a similar problem long ago with Word 3.01 (I now have 3.02). Anyway, what I decided was happening was that word was trying to write files out to disk, so if I was using a disk which was almost full, I would get a "not enuf memory" type error. When I used a disk with at least 20K free, the problem went away... hope this helps! Geoff.
