With the word going out that The Word (4.0) is going out this week, I've got
a question: what about upgrades?
Many, many months ago, I got a note from Microsoft about an offer to upgrade
to Word 4.0 for (I think) $50. Didn't have to send in any money then, but
just a signature that I would buy it. (Just think of how many people who
signed that agreement have died since then! Or become senile...) Sounded
good to me, and I signed the thing and sent it in. Since then, I've gotten
two notes that the release has been delayed, but that my name was in the
bucket.
OK, I can live with all this, I use another imperfect WP (FullWrite) and I
don't worry much. And now I hear that 4.0 is shipping this week -- to
various retail sites. Hey, what about us people who've been waiting around
for upgrades? How come we don't get Word 4.0 first, or at least
concurrently?
Huh? [Insert belligerent snort here]
"Curse you, Inspector Dim. You are too clever for
us naughty people."
