How's this for a moderately sad story? Yes, the replacement has
begun ... in a sense. A few weeks ago I dutifully delivered my
LQ to the designated location for replacement. I was told that
Apple was guaranteeing it would ship as soon as it received a
call so that my new LQ (or perhaps rebuilt--don't know yet)
would appear in about 3 days (Apple is pretty close to here).
Then the old one just has to be shipped to Apple by the next
day.

I gave them a week to be safe. Then our designated replacers
phoned Apple, who told them it would be about three weeks
before they would ship the replacement LQs. I could go back
and pick up my old LQ if I really needed (fortunately I also
have a LaserWriter) it.

I'm still waiting and hoping to get the new one next week.

When, if ever, replacements will get to Germany at that rate
(I'm only 40 or 50 miles from Apple headquarters here in
Berkeley) is anybody's guess. I guess it's another case of
"Real soon now."
