Is there any PD software out there that will allow me to use my Mac in an inverse-video mode? That is, I would like to have the characters be white on a black background... I seem to remember a program that would do this, but I haven't seen it in years. Also, if such a program does exist, will it work on a Mac II? Jeff Baum cs132087@cs.brown.edu

The CloseView CDEV does more than magnification. You can leave the magnification off and turn on only the inverse video feature. It's maintained by Apple ... so it'll work on your Mac II. Plus, it's documented in your Mac's Utilities manual. It is still available since the new version doesn't support the 512K (nice of Berkeley System Design to do this), but I have no idea whether it will run on the Mac II. Too bad the new version doesn't have the reverse feature - it was so useful when demonstrating to friends one of the reasons I went with the Mac :-) ======================================================================== Richard Fozzard University of Colorado "Serendipity empowers" fozzard@boulder.colorado.edu

You must turn magnification off, leave CloseView on, and turn in "white-on-black" mode. It will also reverse colors on a Mac II (my green desktop appears pink). I haven't checked whether it will turn on magnification automatically upon startup (it might, you know) but if it's properly written (ie Human Intf Guidelines and not chang- ing stuff behind the user's back) magnification should remain off until you specifically turn it on. Hope this is what you needed. -Ivan No cute sig this time, guys, my file locker died. DISCLAIMER: Dont blame anyone but me for what I speak here

I don't like the rectangle in CloseView, and would also like to keep the colors I have set (yes, I've edited the color lookup table. In addition to reversing black and white, it alters the colors). Thanks! Tom <tjc@mbunix.mitre.org> P.S. I'll take a look at Stepping Out..

I just downloaded an INIT called ScreenReverse from sumex-aim.stanford.edu. It makes the windows for applications white on black (at least MSWord -- I didn't test it very much), however the Finder windows were still Color on white (MAC II), and that is what I'm trying to change. It didn't work well with the cursor, and dialog boxes and buttons were occasionally unreadable I believe because of Kolor 1.0 setting button text to a dark color. Oh well. If anybody has a patch to Finder (switch the codes for white and black), or a way of altering the finder palette...I'll even take CloseView without the rectangle. Tom <tjc@mbunix.mitre.org>
