As of now one of the hottest issues on the net is Microsoft Word 4.0, and its disputed stage of general release. I would like to ask a question to all of you who are in luck to fiddle with the "released" version of Word 4.0.: How is word 4.0's SPEED compared to 3.0.x ? Weeks back, I had to chance to fiddle around with a beta version of WORD. I found its speed was slow that it could not KEEP up with my typing ( no, I am not a fast typist, at around 60 words per minute max). And don't even mention its WYSIWYG preview mode that is comparable to FullWrite's "notorious" irresponsiveness as we all have bashed it on the net. There have been several articles posted to the net already of people's first impressions about 4.0. Speed issue was never addressed in those articles (not that I have seen and I read almost every article relevant to Word 4 these days). Would some kind soul please tell us something about Word 4.0's speed, speed and speed ??? Thanks in advance. ________________________________________________________________________ Xiaoxia Ye INTERNET/BITNET/UUCP: xxiaoye@eleazar.dartmouth.edu Dartmouth College For more info: finger xxiaoye@eleazar.dartmouth.edu

It seems to be somewhat faster than Word 3 in galley (non page view mode, which is my preferred mode. I generally do my editing/formatting in separate passes). I run on a 512Ke upgraded to 2Meg with a Dove upgrade at home, and even with that slow processor I never noticed Word falling behind me, even though I type 80-120WPM. On my Mac IIx at work, there's obviously no performance problem at all. While I have brought up Word 4 on a standard 512ke, I didn't play with it enough to see what performance problems the reduced memory might cause. If you're working from floppies and not a hard disk, that'll really slow things down, but I'm not sure I'd blame Word for that.
