The problem is that when you turn the equipment on and off, it expands and contracts, which eventually causes an exhaustion problem.

I can't think of a good reason to leave a Plus on overnight. I wouldn't bother to turn it off several times a day though. You're probably right in thinking that it will benefit the Mac if you give it a rest. Note that this does NOT apply to fan-cooled Macs with large drives installed!
