I just upgraded an SE to 2.5 meg, and the machine recognizes the memory
and works fine except that at random intervals (hourly or so) the
machine resets (ping!), screen goes black and it must be cold-booted to
restart (reset switch useless).
I restored the system to the way it was before--no problems. I
installed another set of 2 meg simms--same problem. So i started to
think that it might be software related--i was running under multifinder
now. So i removed all inits from the system folder except KillVirus,
Vaccine, and SFscrollinit. The problem did not recur so far. I'm in
the process of adding, one by one, the other inits/cdevs (M0ire, HierDA,
Private Eye), to see which one is the trouble maker, but was hoping
someone might have a clue. The funny thing is, i'm running this same
combination of things on a 2.5 meg Plus at home without any problems.
