[comp.sys.mac] Good deals on scanners

olasov@heathcliff (Benjamin Olasov) (04/30/89)

I'm getting a new Mac II(x?) & periphs, and don't have a clue about what the
good price performers are in scanners. I'm using it mostly for greyscale work,
but optical character scanning capability would be a nice plus. Can someone
recommend a good bargain on a product line? Also, the Mac will be used mostly
for CAD and graphics applications like desktop publishing- is there any
rational basis, knowing about the intended usage, for choosing among the new
line of machines?

Very gratitude,

Ben

I would highly recommend the Apple Scanner...it only has 16 grays, but that is
plenty enough for most* people. The scanner software is quite adequate, and
for under $1600 it is a very good deal. As for OCR software to go with it, I
wouldn't have a clue there, but I would highyl recommend the Apple Scanner.

Pick up the May issue of MacWorld. It has an article on grey-scale scanners
and monitors. I guess most people use color for CAD, but it's nice to
know about the other options too.
